Wear and Scratch Resistance
Our floors are as tough as they come. Most feature a protective polyurethane finish impregnated with aluminum oxide – millions of tiny, invisible particles (almost as hard as diamonds) that make our floors far more resistant to scratching and surface wear. Some of the solid floors in the Great Lakes Collection go one better with the addition of a new wearlayer called ClearShield™. Featuring nano-technology, ClearShield uses a new kind of nano-particle so tough floors with ClearShield carry an extra lifetime warranty against scratching.

Solid or Engineered Constructions
Our floors come in two different types of constructions – “solid” wood or “engineered.”

Solid Floors are just what they sound like. Each plank is a single, solid piece of your chosen species of wood topped with multiple layers of our protective finish. Most manufacturers recommend that solid floors never be installed over concrete. But our solid floors can be (at ground level or above) when they are installed using Clear Lake Living's exclusive HydroBloc(tm) Installation System. For more information click on installation or ask your flooring dealer.

Engineered Floors are created by laminating multiple layers of natural hardwood “cross-grained” to each other, then topping this base with a premium layer of your chosen hardwood species and multiple coats of our protective finish. This “layering” increases the floor’s resistance to moisture damage, including warping and buckling.

Color and Species
We take unusual care to let the natural colors and characteristics of each species of wood shine through. Darker woods and fine graining are better for more formal or traditional interiors. Lighter woods and wider, more random – or “cathedral graining” – are best for more casual and contemporary settings.

Width and Length
Our floors come in widths ranging from 2 ¼ and 3 inches (called “strips”) to 4, 5 and even 9 inches wide (called “planks”).  Strips offer a more traditional look making them an easy match for almost any look, causal or contemporary. Planks offer more drama and versatility, making them well suited to a variety of settings, from elegant to rustic. All our Engineered floors come in 4 foot lengths. All our other floors come in random lengths. This means a mix of different lengths within every box, creating a more natural look.

Surface Texture
Most of our floors feature a smooth surface texture. A few in the Great lakes Collection are hand-scraped by Amish artisans in the Great Lakes region, creating a rustic charm that can bring timeless warmth and character to any room.
